This past weekend was an exhausting, good time. We played a gig on Friday night at the American Cancer Society's Walk For Life in Sanford, then we played at the Lake Mary Farmer's Market all of Saturday morning into the afternoon, then we had worship on Sunday morning. It was a fun and tiring at the same time.
Both gigs were just a three piece...bass, drums, keys (and vocals). We did some old jazz standards, some Stevie Wonder, some Corinne Bailey Rae, Nora Jones, Smokey Robinson, some of my songs, and some vamps we played around with.
Friday night was funny because right after we sound checked (seriously, it took like 90 seconds to check the volumes and pass things back to the D.J. until it was time for us to play), we had someone come up to us and say, "I think I have another gig for you...and it will be paying."Unfortunately, we weren't available for the date, but it sure was nice to be appreciated. :)
In addition, it was fun to see people's eyebrows raise when they found out we were a church worship team. The D.J. said, "Really?? I thought you guys were professionals." It was almost as though they were thinking - but didn't really want to say it... wow, I didn't know Christ-followers could be cool music people.
