Shifting And Stepping

I feel like there's been a lot of shifting going on in the last few weeks. The transfer from 2010 to 2011 has been pretty shaky for a lot of people I know. A friend of ours said that 2010 was a year of recalibration and 2011 will be a year of action. Well... "action" may mean that you're going to be on the move a lot, shifting, being flexible... but it doesn't mean that you're going to know what's going on.

"By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going." -Heb 11:8

"...when he was called...." How many of us are being called right now? How many are being prompted to move out of where we are, to step out, to shift? If you heard Him, would you move? Or would you wait until something forced you? Would you wait until you got fired from your job, or lost your car or house, or something happened to stop you in your tracks and change your direction?

"...obeyed by going out to a place...." He stepped out from where he was, and moved forward to the place where God told him to go. He didn't go to a place that was comfortable. He didn't make the decision based on wisdom, or resources, or how much food was available. He went where God told him. Now that we've been shifted, where is God telling us to go? Even if we are afraid of the answer, will we go?

"...a place which he was to receive for an inheritance...." God told him what his inheritance would be...but Abraham couldn't see it, he only knew what God said in his heart. What has God put in your heart? What has he promised, shown you, revealed to you, given to you as an inheritance... a new child? a new business? a ministry? a particular job? a calling and purpose? a new legacy for your family? Will you believe Him and grasp it as your own?

"...and he went out, not knowing where he was going." He went. He moved forward. But he didn't know what was going to happen from day to day. He didn't know how it would work out. Or where the food, or job, or house, or strength would come from. But he moved forward because he believed.

That moment in Abraham's life changed everything. God moved in some of the most miraculous ways in history for him because of his faith in God. Everything he was promised came true. His family, for generations and generations, have reaped the benefit of his faith and willingness to obey in the midst of uncertain circumstances.

So, today, if you are being called to move, shifted, or pushed out of where you were... how will you respond?
